The Morelet’s crocodile (Crocodylus moreletii) is the type we have in the area. It is also known as the Mexican crocodile. It can be found only in fresh waters of the Atlantic regions of Mexico, Belize , and Guatemala. It usually grows to about 3 meters (9.8 ft) in length. They generally stay in the mangrove. When there is an extreme amount of rain, they do sometimes wander out. Do not go near them, as they can be dangerous. If you see one, please call Civil Protection 998-409-0380 . On occasion, you can see a big crock on the empty lot by the Casa de la Cultura. Otherwise, the best place to see them is at Crococoon park.
