Groceries and basics
Fruit and vegetable mobile market: On Wednesday mornings from 7:30 to 1 pm you can find the local mobile market on the street next to the church, across from the Main Plaza. You will also find lots of hand-made and homemade treats and crafts made by local hands. For fresh juices, fruits and vegetables there is a small store on Av. Niños Heroes (see map). Turn west at the Police Station on the north side of the Main Plaza, go up one
Jardin Botanico
You can also visit the Dr. Alfredo Barrera Marín Botanical Gardens. The visit lasts about 1.5 hours and it is a great opportunity to step into a real jungle. You’ll find it just south of Puerto along the highway, on the east side.
Selvatica
If you want something on the more adventurous side, we suggest Selvatica, which is our local adventure park. Not as big as the huge commercial operations owned by the Xcaret group but wonderful nonetheless. www.selvatica.com.mx
Craft Market
Enjoy the craft market located just 2 blocks north of Aldea Bek or visit the craft fair that is set up Fridays and Saturdays and Sundays at the beachfront park.
Cenotes
Close by is Ruta de los Cenotes. Cenotes are natural sink-holes, spread throughout the region, which you can visit and snorkel, dive or swim in. In some of them, like Cenote Zapote, scientists have found ancient animal and human skeletons.
Snorkel
We are blessed to be protected by the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef, the second longest barrier reef in the world. It runs parallel to the Yucatan Peninsula. In Puerto Morelos, the reef is closer to the shore than in other areas of the Riviera Maya. In 1998, this section of the reef became a protected wildlife reserve. To protect the reef, all snorkelers and divers must go out to the reef with accredited guides If you want to explore the reef diving or snorkeling,
